How Blogging Boosts Your SEO: Case Study

When looking for a new service or product, such as a hairdresser or camping gear, typically the first thing we all do is type it into a search bar to see what’s out there. But, most of us don’t look very far.

In fact, 75% of people never scroll past the first page of search engine results. On top of that, data suggests that the first listing in Google’s organic search results receives 33% of the traffic.

That’s what makes Search Engine Optimization (SEO) so powerful!

Getting your website to come out on top of competitors on searches will grow your traffic, increase your leads, and produce more sales.

That is why SEO is Webster Digital Marketing’s (WDM) most popular service—our customers see a big reward in SEO.

However, SEO is NOT an overnight process. Getting good rankings takes time, extensive keyword research, months of website updates, speed tests, freshly written content, and problem-solving. On top of that, search engines are ALWAYS changing their qualifications for SEO. But, that’s why you hire a company like WDM because we know how to navigate these changes and adjust accordingly.

One thing that hasn’t changed, is that fresh content on your website can help increase your search engine position. Fresh content touches more keywords and adds more images and pages for search engines to crawl.

And the best way to add fresh, new content is with a blog!

Our Client’s Successful Blog Journey

You might be wondering if a blog can really make that much of a difference. It can! But we don’t just want you to take our word for it, we want to show you.

Let’s take a look at a client that has used our SEO services for years—since 2017 to be exact.

This is a snapshot of our ranking report that we send out to customers each month. It goes further in detail of exactly where each keyword is ranked on what search engine, but this part shown gives us a summary of the last year.

First of all, let us explain. Your keywords are the words people type in a search that leads them to your business. We find appropriate keywords for your business that people are actually searching in your area. We add these to our reporting and track what position they rank over time.

Our report focuses on keywords ranked in the top 50 spots of Google and Bing. Rankings in the top 10 positions will appear on the first page, which is shown with both greens and yellow.

The more green and yellow within the bar, the higher your rankings are for the month. The longer the bar, the more rankings you have in the top 50 search positions.

Now, this client’s SEO was doing really well and going strong until Google changed its criteria for search rankings, which happens frequently. Because of this, we started to see a drop in rankings.

To combat this change, we started blogging for them at the end of November 2019. While December still dropped, one blog and that short time frame wasn’t enough to get them trending upward. But in January, we saw a bit of a rise, and then again in February, and even more in March.

As we continued to add more blogs, their SEO rankings continued to rise!

We forecast that as the blogging continues, keywords will keep moving from that 11th-50th rank to 1st-10th spots. Think of the keywords moving up a flight of stairs—they can’t always jump to the next level; they need to take it step-by-step.

Don’t Have a Blog Yet? Add One!

Adding a reoccurring monthly blog is a great way to not only boost your SEO rankings but also share valuable content to potential customers. It’s a win-win.

If you’ve been hesitant to add a blog to your website, perhaps because they seem time-consuming, don’t fret! WDM does all the heavy lifting when it comes to blog writing. You can be as involved or uninvolved in the process as you want to be.

Plus, when you hire us to do the blog writing, we make sure it’s SEO friendly, hitting all the notes the search engines want us too—like adding keywords and meta descriptions.
