Essential Features of Google Search That Enhance Your SEO Strategy

Google searches have come a long way since the search engine launched in 1998. Back then, a search query would return a simple list of links, spread across multiple pages. Today, Google offers so much more, incorporating images, maps, videos, and other features that enhance the search experience.

The Evolution of Google Searches

If you’re trying to grow your business digitally, ranking on Google is crucial. Google plays a significant role in SEO, especially local SEO. But what will you find when you do a Google search, and how is it relevant for your business?

Maps

If you’re looking for a specific business in your area, Google Maps will likely be in the top results. The search engine factors in your location when showing local businesses. For example, if you’re searching for a pizza place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the map will display all the nearby restaurants where you can get a slice. This feature is known as the Google 3-Pack and appearing in it makes you 44 percent likely to be clicked on.

According to one source, 86% of customers use Google Maps to find local businesses.

Discussions & Forums

Google searches can pull up links to third-party websites including Reddit posts, Facebook profiles, Yelp profiles, and more.

These can be included at the top of your search results, providing additional context and information.

People Also Ask

When someone searches on Google, they might phrase their query differently. For example, one person might type “Albuquerque Pizza Place,” while another might ask, “Where is the best pizza place in Albuquerque?” Google’s “People Also Ask” gets these different variations and they will provide a list of questions that have been asked on its search platform.

The Traditional Search

At its core, Google still relies on its traditional search methods. If you can rank for relevant keywords, you’ll be towards the top of the results, even among the third-party content. You might also encounter Google Ads links, which appear at the top depending on the search query.

People Also Search For

At the bottom of the first search page, you’ll find the “People Also Search For” section, which highlights additional keywords and phrases related to your query. This feature was introduced in 2018 and is a valuable resource for identifying relevant keywords that your business can try to rank for.
